There are plenty of activities to keep you busy in and around Plettenberg Bay. As your hosts, and as long-time Plettenberg Bay locals, we can advise on, arrange and book any activities you wish to take part in. Plettenberg Bay, the nearby Crags and Stormsriver / Tsitsikamma areas are famous for some unique family and adventure activities, and for those simply wishing to enjoy the area's beautiful beaches, there are a number to choose from. We can advise on which beaches are best for swimming, surfing, taking long walks or enjoying sundowners. Plettenberg Bay and neighbouring Keurbooms and Nature's Valley have them all, and a unique aspect of a stay at our Bed & Breakfast is access to the only beach in Plettenberg Bay that can be classed as private due to its inaccessibility - except by canoe across the lagoon from our property. We have several canoes available to our guests for this purpose, or for a paddle up the Keurbooms River to a forested gorge, or to the river-mouth for lunch at Milkwood Manor.
For the brave and energetic, the world's highest commercial bungee jump is situated at nearby Bloukrans Bridge. Other activities either near or in Plettenberg Bay include treetop slides through the Tsitsikamma forest canopy, black-water river rafting, diving, sky-diving, mountain-biking, horse-riding and deep-sea fishing. Family-oriented activities include several animal sanctuaries and experiences. Get up close to Africa's most majestic animals at the Knysna Elephant Park between Plettenberg Bay and Knysna, or at The Elephant Sanctuary in the Crags - where you can also ride the elephants. Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, Birds of Eden (the largest free-flight aviary in the world) and Tenikwa Cat Rehabilitation Centre (where you can take a walk with a cheetah on a leash) can be found right next door to the Elephant Sanctuary. Activities like these make Plettenberg Bay a far more interesting and diverse holiday destination for those seeking more than lazing about on our pristine beaches and swimming in our sparkling waters - as if that isn’t enough.
For those keen to venture further along The Garden Route, nearby Knysna also offers a number of adventure activities, the famous Knysna Heads and oysters - at a restaurant on the lagoon, or on a sunset cruise. Both Knysna and Plettenberg Bay offer boat-based close-encounter Whale-watching and dolphin encounter trips, and then of course there is - Golf on The Garden Route.
The Garden Route from George to Plettenberg Bay is studded with some of South Africa's finest gold-courses, and if Golf is your game - you need look no further than our Goose Valley Golf Estate - the Gary Player designed 18-hole golf course and secure housing estate on which The Whaling Station is situated.
Goose Valley Golf Estate was built behind and around The Whaling Station and our property, so we have the advantage of both the extra security and the golf course while still retaining absolute privacy and our unique lagoon-front position. Apart from cut price green fees for our guests, we also have use of the golf-estate’s tennis courts and restaurant.
There is plenty to do for those not wishing to venture too far from our B&B, as in addition to the activities already mentioned, we offer picnics up the river or sunset cruises in our powerboat, evening braais in our lapa, and a rim flow swimming pool with a magnificent ocean view over Plettenberg Bay.
